ABB and Evolvere pilot project brings residential blockchain technology even closer

By working with Evolvere, ABB investors are allowing more efficient management of energy exchange in smart grid environments using blockchain technology and smart contracts.

With the emerging movement of prosumers, the growth of digitalization and the demand for renewable energy, traditional centralized energy models seek revolutionary new energy exchanges.

In response, the leader in pioneer technology ABB has been collaborating with the renowned Italian company Evolvere, using the blockchain technology previously developed with its partner Prosume, offering greater transparency and security for peer transactions.

Using ABB's ability to offer digital solutions through ABB Ability ? and its leading portfolio of investors, including UNO-DM-PLUS solar inverters and REACT 2 inverters with storage, the pilot project has opened up a sea of possibilities for Energy markets explore new models focused on smart grid environments.

Giampiero Frisio, Director of the ABB Smart Power Business Line, explained: “We recognize that the way people consume and use their energy is changing. Prosumers, who use their own photovoltaic systems, are analyzing how they can not only produce and use the energy they create, but also share any excess energy between neighbors, communities and the entire network. ”

“As a pioneering technology leader, with a range of digitally enabled solutions from the sun to the source of consumption, we are proud to work with companies with like-minded ideologies, such as Evolvere, to test the potential of blockchain technology in solar systems, which we it will give a powerful platform for future energy exchange solutions, ”added Frisio.

Blockchain, a public record, is used to store, verify and maintain peer transactions. It also has enormous potential to break into the energy sector, offering a viable transaction alternative to traditional models.

It allows decentralizing the way in which transactions are carried out and managed by adopting a safe and reliable peer-to-peer approach, which reduces complexity and costs for customers (utilities, aggregators and the energy community in general) . It also offers high efficiency for consumers and suppliers, allowing fast execution and automatic payments for maintenance and other services.

This latest pilot between ABB and Evolvere further supports the claims that blockchain can be used in energy markets and used in public services and aggregators, to allow new business models.

In fact, it demonstrates how blockchain-ready investors with built-in digital capabilities can help reduce CAPEX and OPEX project costs.

Franco Giampetruzzi, CEO of Evolvere, said: “We are committed to disseminating the advantages of distributed power generation through smart grid technology to allow owners to realize how close we are to share energy with other consumers. ABB is a reliable and high quality partner that supports our innovations in the blockchain space. ”

After the pilot, ABB will take the investigation a step further and investigate how it can ensure that all its investors in the same class are ready for blockchain.

ABB Frisio concluded: “The Evolvere project has allowed us to develop viable and proven solutions for the market, anticipating dynamics and regulatory frameworks that could be introduced for blockchain technology. We are excited to be on this trip as we write the future of energy. ”
