Liebherr will introduce new bearings for wind turbines

At the WindEnergy exhibition, which will be held in Hamburg from September 25 to September 28, 2019, the German engineering corporation Liebherr will present to the public its new development for wind generators - a three-row roller bearing of a rotor with a diameter of 2.60 meters and a weight of eight tons. This impressive new addition to the existing Liebherr range of slewing bearings for electromechanical and hydraulic rotor and yaw adjustment of wind turbines.

Wind power plays an increasingly important role in the energy policies of many countries. Therefore, increasing the efficiency of wind generators is an important prerequisite for further growth of the industry. The rotor of the wind generator, which is supported by the main bearing, is a key unit, the operation life and economic profitability of the equipment depend on the reliability and efficiency of which.

Liebherr main bearings are used in wind turbines with power from 2 MW and above. Liebherr offers bearings in two designs: depending on the requirements, prevailing loads and customer requirements, double row tapered roller bearings or three row roller bearings are used. The optimized seal for swivel bearings protects the inside of the bearings from dirt and moisture and prevents the leakage of grease.

Liebherr’s endurance and life cycle tests at its own test bench at the Biberach site have enabled Liebherr to optimize bearing design in terms of cost and performance. The test bench has been operating since last year and has already provided invaluable assistance to designers and developers, allowing you to track the service life of raceways, seals and race elements.
