Timken Bearings for the Food Industry

Timken offers bearings and other components for all stages of food production, including sorting, washing, cleaning, grinding and cutting, thermal and chemical processing, as well as packaging or bottling. A wide range of corrosion-resistant bearings resistant to extreme temperatures, ingress of water and pollutants has been developed for working in the most difficult conditions.

Equipment for processing and packaging meat, poultry, fish requires bearings that withstand washing, cleaning and disinfection measures day after day. In turn, they should not cause food contamination with lubricants, etc.

“All manufacturers in the food and beverage industry are aware of the potential danger of food contamination, be it foreign particles, grease, or a bacterial infection. It’s also clear what a negative impact even a single bearing may have on the entire production line, ”said Michael Connors, vice president of global marketing for Timken. “We develop bearings for applications where lubricant leakage and corrosion are unacceptable.”

Timken has developed a wide range of polymer bearings, stainless steel, solid lubricant, and ultra-reliable seals that help make food equipment safer, more reliable and more economical. All types of bearings for the food industry are approved by the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) and comply with international and Russian sanitary and hygienic standards.

- Timken Poly-Round - body assemblies based on plain bearings made from high quality polymers that are not subject to corrosion. They do not have balls or other rolling elements, a separator and seals, they work without lubrication at all and are well suited for use in food processing equipment. They are designed to work in a wide range of temperatures - from cryogenic to +500 o C, resistant to washing under pressure, hot water, detergent solutions, treatment with hot steam, as well as a constantly wet environment. In addition, for such bearings, it is possible to predict wear with high accuracy, which allows for routine maintenance rather than emergency replacement.

- Timken Solid Lube - this technology involves the use of a microporous polymer structure in combination with high-performance oil, which completely fills the free volume in the bearing. During rotation, the oil is continuously released to lubricate the rolling surfaces, helping food manufacturers reduce maintenance requirements and increase food safety.

- Timken Food Safe - a stainless steel liner is used in body ball bearings to withstand aggressive washing to extend bearing life and maximize equipment performance. The bearings in this series have NSF H1 safety grease approved for use in food processing equipment.

- Timken Blue Polymer - machined stainless steel bearing housings have a smooth surface that facilitates washing and cleaning, and blue paint makes it possible to detect any contamination.
