Management Buyout at Schaeffler in Hamm


Schaeffler has sold its plant in Hamm to the management. The management buyout preserves the 110 jobs at the site. The purchase price was agreed between the two parties involved.


The new company will be called Inno Friction GmbH. "The company can operate much more agile and focused outside the Schaeffler Group," says Matthias Zink, Member of the Board of Management of Schaeffler AG and CEO of the Automotive OEM Division. "At the same time, it allows us to focus even more intensively on the future areas of e-mobility and autonomous driving."


In Hamm, friction linings with carrier plates for dry double clutches have been produced especially for the Schaeffler Group. At the top, this part of the production accounted for about 60% of the company's turnover. Recently, the demand was according to the company continued and significantly declined.


In addition, the plant in Hamm supplies third-party customers in the industrial and automotive business with various special solutions in the field of friction technology, including for the agricultural sector, for elevator systems, electromagnetic brakes or wind turbines. While the remaining production for double-clutch linings at the Hamm site is expected to expire by 2020/21, management in the industrial business continues to see development and growth potential.


"The existing business relations will continue unchanged, and a close cooperation with the Schaeffler Group will continue," said the former plant manager and future managing directors of the new company, Dr. Ing. Christian Spandern. "At the same time, we continue to see potential for growing the location, especially in the industrial business."
