Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler in Formula E’s Inaugural Event in Chile

New soil for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship and Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler: February 3 marks the first date for a race to be hosted by Santiago de Chile.

With the Chilean capital now impressively marking the 17th metropolis to host the racing series since its inaugural event in 2014, Formula E once again proves how hot a topic electric mobility has become around the globe.

Formula E will be racing on the newly designed Parque Forestal Ciudad De Santiago. The 2.470-kilometer circuit has a varied layout, including a river crossing, with a total of twelve corners in store for the drivers. The two campaigners of Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt, have demonstrated their ability to win by having posted top times in practice, qualifying and races at the events in Hong Kong and Marrakesh held to date.

Schaeffler has a massive presence in South America, with 3,500 employees at its site in Brazil, which in 2018 is celebrating 60 years of operations. Schaeffler also has sales offices in Colombia, Chile, Peru and Argentina, where it has been established since 1970, and now a new office has been inaugurated to expand its business even more. The company also has distribution centers in Cartagena (Colombia) and Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Suspense galore guaranteed

Twelve races at ten events on five continents – the calendar of the innovative Formula E electric racing series is as extensive this season as never before. Three locations – Rome, Santiago de Chile and Zurich – are hosting Formula E races for the first time. The schedule at each event is tight: free practice, qualifying and the race(s) take place within the space of just a few hours.

Since the 2014/2015 inaugural Formula E season, Schaeffler, with its commitment in Formula E, has been emphasizing its position as a pioneer in electric mobility on the race track as well. Ever since the technical regulations began to provide greater latitude for the 2015/2016 season, specialists from Schaeffler have been involved in the development of the powertrain for the team’s race car. The new Audi e-tron FE04 for the 2017/2018 season incorporates technology “made by Schaeffler” as well. Together with Audi, engineers of the technology group developed the centerpiece of the vehicle: the combination of the motor and transmission.
