2018 DTM with Mike Rockenfeller in Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM

The 32nd DTM season kicks off at Hockenheim next weekend. Schaeffler is on board with a race car of its own now for the eighth consecutive year. From 2011 to 2017 the green-yellow Schaeffler Audi dubbed “Caipirinha express” acquired cult status. In 2018, it is sporting a new look.

Mike Rockenfeller is again at the wheel of the Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM of Phoenix Racing. The 34-year-old German in 2013 crowned himself champion with Schaeffler support and in 2017 just barely missed scoring another title win. The 2018 version of the touring car with more than 500 horsepower that achieves a speed of 275 km/h was not only modified in terms of technology – downforce reduced by some 25 percent is intended to deliver an even greater show to the fans than before – but, above all, received a visual makeover. Sporting a fresh green-white look, the Schaeffler race car communicates the company’s philosophy in emotive ways. Featuring the same color combination, the cars of Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler thrill audiences in the current Formula E electric racing season.

With 20 races at ten events the 2018 DTM calendar is the most extensive one since 1996. Also, the fans can look forward to three German premium manufacturers, some of the world’s most notable drivers and a supporting program that is as varied as usual. The first points this season will be awarded at the Hockenheimring. The 4.574-kilometer Grand Prix circuit is by far the most frequented one in the DTM.

Long DTM tradition

Even in the DTM’s initial years, Schaeffler and its product brands supported drivers and teams with know-how in motorsport and technology. Since 2011 the technology group has been giving its name to the Schaeffler Audi and celebrated major successes including two title wins. In the DTM, cars with internal combustion engines have traditionally been used. This is a field in which Schaeffler makes an important contribution as well with innovative technologies and products to make IC engines efficient and fit for mobility for tomorrow.
