Schaeffler and Rockenfeller go Racing in the Eifel
The DTM begins its decisive phase of the 2017 season this coming weekend (September 8 to 10) with the seventh of nine race weekends. Schaeffler driver Mike Rockenfeller is currently third on the table.
A victory and a fourth place in Zandvoort, before that a second place in the Moscow – with a total 55 points, Mike Rockenfeller has collected more points than any other driver in the previous two DTM race weekends. With these good results, the 2013 champion has climbed to third overall in the drivers’ rankings, only 18 points behind Mattias Ekström at the top of the table with six races remaining.
The DTM train stops off in the Eifel for its seventh race weekend. The Nürburgring is the only race track to have always been a fixture on the calendar since the debut of the most popular touring car championship in 1984. Nowadays, the action takes place on the 3.629-kilometer sprint circuit. Mike Rockenfeller’s best result there was second place in 2014. The long-time Schaeffler ambassador has stood on the podium twice in twelve of his races there.
Schaeffler has been involved in the DTM since the 1980s. In 2011 and 2013, the company was the main sponsor of the vehicles of Martin Tomczyk and Mike Rockenfeller – the last two drivers’ title winners for Audi. Traditionally, in the most popular international touring car racing series, vehicles with internal combustion engines are used. Schaeffler also plays an important role in this field with innovative technologies and products for the automotive industry, making the combustion engine powertrain efficient and fit for mobility for tomorrow.
