NTN Donates “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” as Company's 100th Anniversary Activity
For use in regional disaster and crime prevention measures. Also as a proposal for locally produced and consumed renewable energy

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) will donate the “NTN Hybrid Street Lights,” *1 which generate power using wind and solar light, to 5 locations within Japan to spread locally produced and consumed renewable energy and to be used for regional disaster and crime prevention as one of the measures towards coexisting with local communities for the company's 100th anniversary activity.

Since the time NTN was founded in 1918, NTN has been expanding its business while receiving a great deal of support from everyone in various regions both in Japan and overseas. As NTN approaches the company's 100th anniversary in March 2018, as part of the anniversary activities, NTN has been showing our appreciation to everyone in the regions that have given us supports while also developing various measures to contribute towards society such as sponsoring the “20th Tour of Japan,” *2 which is an international cycling race event with close relations to local communities, as part of our hope to be together with local communities for the next 100 years. NTN will contribute a total of 17 units of “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” to 5 locations within Japan for the purpose of deepening understanding about locally produced and consumed renewable energy while also putting them to use as measures to prevent regional disaster and crime as suffering and damage to property still continues due to the natural disasters that have hit each region of Japan in recent years.

The “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” use power generated from two forms of natural energy, wind and solar light, to charge batteries and power LED lights that turn on automatically at night. The product has the features of being extremely silent and there is almost no wind noise generated using a vertical axis wind turbine with a proprietary blade shape. This allows the products to be installed in various locations close to local communities in both public and commercial facilities such as parks and schools. The built-in battery provides power for illumination for 5 days when fully charged, and can also be used as an electric power source for emergencies during disasters or power outages since it is an independent power source.

Since 2015, NTN has been taking on natural energy business as one of the major themes towards sustainable growth for the next 100 years in the Medium-term Management Plan “NTN 100.” In addition to the “NTN Hybrid Street Lights,” which will be donated this time, NTN has been contributing to achieve a low carbon society by proceeding with proposals for locally produced locally consumed energy through offering products that use natural energy such as the “NTN Micro Hydro Turbine”*3 that can generate power simply by placing it in an existing water channel and the high efficiency “NTN Vertical Axis Wind Turbine [10 kW]”*4 for which NTN has moved forward with preparations to launch during this fiscal year.
