SKF India announces team for Gothia Cup 2017
Company participates in the prestigious tournament for the seventh year in row

Pune, 2017: SKF India today announced two football teams comprising of 17 boys and 12 girls for Gothia Cup 2017, world’s largest youth football tournament. The team consists of young players from Municipal schools of Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune trained under SKF Sports Education Program. This initiative is a part of SKF’s social commitment to help underprivileged players to garner international exposure and get a holistic development platform.

The formal announcement of the team was made in the presence of Mr. Shravan Hadikar, Ulrika Sundberg, Counsel General of Sweden in India and Mr. Shishir Joshipura, MD & Country Head, SKF India along with Mr. Shrikant Savangikar, Director - BE, Sustainability and Quality, and Anjali Byce - Director HR.

Shishir Joshipura, Managing Director and Country Head, SKF India, said, “I am proud to announce a new India team from our Sports Academies for Gothia Cup 2017. SKF is committed to the cause of supporting local communities. Encouraging children to join the Sports Academy, training them with best facilities and finally giving a group of players an opportunity to travel to Gothenburg, meet and bond with kids of various nationalities are a part of this initiative. We are extremely glad to make this happen for the seventh year in a row.”

The players will represent SKF India at the tournament in the under 12 category. The team was selected from a pool of talented players in the age group 11 to 13 who are trained by skilled instructors at SKF Sports Academy in Pune and Ahmedabad. The selected players are shortlisted through the “Meet the World” tournament organized by SKF in the Pune campus.

The SKF Sports Academies in Pune & Ahmedabad promote the nurturing of young talent and provides sporting skills. The academy is equipped with modern amenities to train young footballers and also provides career guidance, counselling, aptitude test, personality development sessions and study techniques that helps them in excelling in various fields. Additionally, parenting and counselling workshops are also held for parents of these children.

The Gothia Cup – 2017 is scheduled in Gothenburg, Sweden from July 16 to July 22, 2017.
