USA and Eifel – a Motorsport Double for Schaeffler
The penultimate event of Formula E in New York City and the home race in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the Nürburgring: Schaeffler will fight for victories and points on two continents at the same time from July 14-16.

Schaeffler is involved in three internationally renowned racing series in 2017 with Formula E, the WEC and the DTM. Two of these series are in action this weekend at the same time, 6000 kilometers away from each other and separated by six time zones.

Formula E is the first single-seater series to bring motorsport to the heart of New York City – and for two days too: As well as on Saturday (July 15), the innovative racing series will provide the ‘electro spirit’ on the 1.953-kilometer Brooklyn Circuit on Sunday (July 16) as well. Electricity is to become increasingly important as drive power on the public roads of the US metropolis as well. For example, a study was carried out that states that electrically operated, autonomously driving taxis could significantly reduce traffic volumes.

After eight of twelve races in the 2016/2017 Formula E season, the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team is in a strong position in the title fight. The Brazilian Lucas di Grassi is second in the drivers’ rankings, with his German teammate Daniel Abt in ninth. In the team rankings, ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport is second.

In the motorsport scene, WEC is considered particularly challenging and at the same time an ideal test laboratory for innovative drive technologies. As a pioneer in the development of hybrid systems for production vehicles, Schaeffler considers the WEC an ideal platform to show how the technology transfer between race track and road actually works. Schaeffler is partnering Porsche for the fourth year. Together, in 2015 and 2016 they won both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ world championships, and from 2015 to 2017 they won the great season highlight, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, three times in a row (current highlight film).

The fourth of a total nine races in the current WEC season marks the home race for the two German companies. New table-leader Porsche will be tackling the 6-hour race on the 5.148-kilometer-long Grand Prix circuit of the Nürburgring and are aiming to win it for the third time after 2015 and 2016.
