ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport visits the megacity
Formula E takes to North America on its tour of the globe: the fourth of twelve season races takes place this weekend in the heart of Mexico City.

The ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team has started the 2016/2017 season well. In the first three races, Lucas di Grassi clinched two podiums and a further finish in the points. The Brazilian thus sits in second place in the drivers’ rankings. Teammate Daniel Abt from Kempten, after a sixth and seventh place finish, is overall eighth. In the teams’ rankings, ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport occupies second place.

Formula E will again in 2017 take place on a short, 2.092-kilometer version of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the long variant of which has been the venue of 17 Formula 1 races. In terms of business, Mexico is home to three production sites and is an important partner country for Schaeffler. The newest plant in the state of Puebla was inaugurated at the end of 2015 and is specialized, among other things, in the manufacture of torque converters for the US market.

The entire race day – free practice, qualifying and race – all take place on the same day in Formula E. Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi get underway on Saturday, April 1, at 8 a.m. local time (4 p.m. CEST). The race starts at 4 pm local time (12 a.m. CEST). In Germany, Eurosport broadcasts every race live; the program from Mexico City on Saturday begins at 11.45 p.m. CEST. Schaeffler will also present the Formula E magazine, which can be seen on Eurosport on April 4 at 10 p.m.

Journalists are cordially invited to the Schaeffler Tech Talk on Friday, March 31. In the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport pits at 4.30 p.m. local time, Dr. Simon Opel, Head of Special Projects Motorsport at Schaeffler, will give a close insight into the team as well as Schaeffler’s involvement in Formula E.
