Senvion Turbines are Spinning at Quebec’s First 100% Community Wind Farm
Senvion, a leading global manufacturer of wind turbines, announces the completion of Quebec’s first 100% community owned wind farm. The Pierre-De Saurel wind project features 12 Senvion MM92 Cold Climate Version (CCV) type turbines. With a total capacity of 24.6 megawatts (MW) it will supply clean, renewable energy to nearly 6,000 households in the region.

Pierre-De Saurel wind farm is located on the lands of Yamaska, Saint-Aimé and Saint-Robert. The project is set to bring in over 200 million dollars in local revenue to the Regional County Municipality (RCM), the municipalities, as well as the local farmers on whose lands the project is installed. Turbine components such as towers, blades and converters were produced in Quebec and account for over 40 per cent of each wind turbine’s value.

Helmut Herold, CEO at Senvion North America, says: “The commissioning of Pierre-De Saurel was faster than usual. Due to our experience with community wind farms and the exceptional quality of our project management team, we exceeded regular lead times. Pierre-De-Saurel wind farm is another great example of how communities can generate income as well as renewable energy.”

Frédéric Tremblay, Executive Director of the Pierre-De Saurel wind farm, adds: “We are extremely satisfied with the products and services offered by Senvion. Throughout our unique community project, Senvion has shown a great flexibility to meet our requirements. Without such flexibility and professionalism, it would have been difficult to achieve our goal. We are looking forward to generating a substantial financial return for our community during the next 20 years.”

To date, Senvion has a footprint of more than 1,400 megawatts in Canada. Its Canadian offices are located in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The company started its Canadian operations out of Montreal in the province of Quebec in 2009 and has since installed over 600 wind turbines in the country.
